Meet Janille
I’m Janille, an editor with a background in both education and writing. I have a Bachelor of Science in education and a Master of Fine Arts, and I recently completed the Poynter ACES editing program. Over the years, I’ve worked as a teacher, a teacher-author on Teachers Pay Teachers, and an editor, copyeditor, and proofreader for a small publisher, in addition to working with Wise Oak.
I enjoy reading and providing developmental edits to fiction writers. When it comes to academic writing, I especially like working with non-traditional students, who have one leg in the work world and the other in the academic world. People are often are very knowledgable in their field but unused to writing in an academic format. I like helping their expertise come through in their academic writing, too.
I came to appreciate editing during my MFA program when students provided a facsimile of editing for each other through writer’s workshops. Receiving sound feedback from someone who understands what you’re trying to say can transform your writing. Clear writing comes from clear thinking. A good editor helps writers refine their thinking by refining their writing.
When I’m not editing, I’m usually cleaning up after, reading to, or playing with my three kids. I enjoy working at our allotment where we grow fruit, vegetables, and—inadvertently—a variety of weeds.

[Janille was] very timely, responsive, and excellent feedback. It made the finalization of my dissertation much smoother. ... You all were wonderful.

Before this project, I believed I was a fair writer. After receiving my edits, I told Janille that I obviously did not have the grasp on the English language that I thought I did. Acknowledging the truth is the first step to growth! I was amazed by my editor's abilities. I'm inspired to become a. better writer.
