Meet K
they/them
Hi there! I’m K, and writing is probably my truest love in life. I started writing stories in kindergarten, but I would say it wasn’t until I started writing fanfiction in middle school that I started thinking about both planning and editing. I still write fanfiction and original fiction, and over the years, I’ve also had the pleasure of helping other fanfic writers revise and edit their work before posting it online.
My love for writing is what led me to be an English major in both graduate and undergraduate school, and editing definitely played a role in every paper I wrote, especially my dissertation! Just having all that personal experience gave me the confidence I needed to get into professional editing, and now I mostly edit dissertations and journal articles with the occasional “other” project thrown in.
Outside of editing, I also teach undergraduate composition courses, and I like the way these roles reinforce each other. With my students, I go over the basics of good writing, and with clients, I implement these principles at an upper academic level.
Personally, my favorite subjects to work with are literature, art, cultural studies, and theology, but I enjoy learning about anything, so I’m always happy to read a project in any field. As far as editing goes, I enjoy helping a text become clearer and smoother to read, such as by reducing redundancy and filling in holes where information is lacking. My goal is always to help the author effectively communicate whatever it is they’re trying to say, and like I tell my students, that takes having a little imagination to think of different ways to say the same thing as well as familiarity with the rules and norms that shape meaning in the English language. Personally, I think that kind of exercise is fun!
Outside of work, I’m a pretty simple person: I like listening to music and daydreaming music videos for them starring my favorite characters, writing stories that also star those characters, watching the occasional anime, and sleeping
K was very clear in their direction, asking great questions so that my intent was honored. We had quick and efficient time turnarounds despite working in very different time zones. I felt listened to and respected despite the multiple changes needed. Thank you.

The incredibly quick response time from Wise Oak as a whole was the best initial feature. Specifically, being given K as my editor was the best possible match! In the beginning, not knowing what I didn’t know was difficult. I underestimated the time it would take to finish my writing, but K was so patient and worked with me at every delay.
